About Karen Ethridge:

Hello and thanks for considering us to care for your pets and home.

We are tidy, non-smoking animal lovers who have shared our lives with 10 dogs, 4 cats, a mouse and fish over the years. Our most recent pets were 2 Shelties and a cat, all of who lived 12-18 years, giving us extensive experience with both older pets and energetic puppies and kittens.

A former executive in the financial services sector, Garrett served 2 years as President of the Board of Four Paws for Ability, a US based non-profit that provides service dogs to disabled children around the world. I spent 4 years as a volunteer diver at the Newport Aquarium, feeding and observing the fish and other aquatic critters for health issues, interacting with patrons, and cleaning the big tanks from the inside.  This included weekly dives in a tank full of rays, eels and huge sharks. Yikes!

We recently spent 2.5 years traveling the globe, immersing ourselves in other cultures and lavishing pets with love while their owners were away. In Nov 2020 we’re going to start exploring the world again, and we'd love to care for and play with your furry friends as part of our travels.

Our plans are to stay in the USA during 2021 or until there’s a proven vaccine. Hopefully we’ll be able to travel internationally by early 2022. We prefer stays of 3+ weeks, but will accept shorter sits if we’ll be in the area at the right time, or it’s a super cool sit.

We love animals, meeting new people, exploring new places and being of service.  We are the pet sitters that will allow you to truly enjoy your time away, knowing your home and pets are well cared for, loved and protected. We love both animals and travel, and pet/house sitting gives us the opportunity to stay in homes in various locations while loving, caring for, and playing with other people's pets.  We can't have pets of our own right now, so we do the next best thing: temporarily adopting other people's pets from time to time!

We've had pets for most of our lives, we've volunteered with animal-based non-profit organizations, we've pet sat for others around the world, and Karen is certified in Pet First Aid by the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). We've given insulin shots, pet pills, inhalers, special food, eye drops and ear medication to furry friends. We've even bushed a dog's teeth every day.

Karen and Garrett are great and very organized. They are clear communicators which I appreciate. George was thrilled with them - walks, ball throwing, cuddles and treats. He was very relaxed when we arrived home - showing how relaxed and calm (yet active) Karen and Garrett are. Not sure if he missed us at all! The house was clean and in order when we got home. Karen was wonderful! We met her the night before we left and just knew at that point that our retriever, Holly, and our home were in good hands. She is obviously a seasoned pet sitter and is serious about making sure she is aware of even small details.

She communicated well and took our dog on many interesting walks. It was clear when, on our return home, Holly cuddled up to Karen and looked sad when she left that she had really enjoyed her time with her.

We would definitely be happy to have Karen return again (and so would Holly)!
